Open Air Theatre Welcomes The 'First Lady of Musical Theatre'

Elaine Paige will perform at Scarborough Open Air Theatre on Saturday 11 July.

Known as the ‘First Lady of Musical Theatre’ Paige returns to Scarborough for the first time since 2006, when she performed at the Futurist Theatre, and will be accompanied by the Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra.

As an actress, recording artist, producer and broadcaster, Elaine Paige has performed in all over the world and is now concentrating on special 'one off' concerts, following her sold out 50th Anniversary Farewell UK tour.

Speaking of her appearance a the OAT the singer said:

"I’m really looking forward to making my return to Scarborough and to be performing with
the wonderful Royal Philharmonic Concert Orchestra will be such a thrill"

Probably best known for her chart topping hits Memory, Don’t Cry For Me Argentina and I Know Him So Well, Paige has recorded 21 solo albums in total earning eight consecutive gold discs and four multi-platinum.

In 1995 she was awarded an OBE for services to Musical Theatre by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, starring in more West End & Broadway musicals than anyone else of her generation.

As well as continuing to perform Elaine also presents her own BBC Radio 2 show, which is now in its 10th year and attracts over 2 million listeners every week.

Cllr David Chance, the council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture said:

"It will be wonderful to welcome Elaine Paige to the Open Air Theatre and being a one off concert following her 50th anniversary tour will make it even more special."
