Safety Messages Stencilled on Scarborough Streets by Police

safety messages stencilled on scarborough streets

North Yorkshire Police have stenciled friendly safety messages on the streets of Scarborough today using a high pressure water jet.

The messages, designed to make people think about how much they drink are part of the force's 'Take Care at Christmas' campaign and include the messages "Don't tipple til u topple", "see your mates home safe" and "Going from bar to car? B seeing u..."

Rather than using paint, the words of warning have actually been etched into pavement dirt at key locations across the town.

As well as Scarborough, the messages can also be found on the streets of York. Historically these are are two of the busiest areas during the Christmas party season and are responsible for the the highest number of calls to North Yorkshire Police as a result of people drinking too much.

Chief Inspector Charlotte Bloxham of York Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: "The stencils are a great way to get our messages direct to the people we need to target.

"I hope the messages strike a chord with party goers and make them think about their own safety, getting home safe and looking after their friends."

The messages have been stencilled in York Place, Falconers Road, Harcourt Place, St Thomas Street and St Nicholas Street.
