Scarborough Man Fined £400 For Dog Fouling Offences

Dog Fouling Sign

Following investigations by Scarborough Borough Council's Dog Warden service, a Scarborough dog owner has been found guilty of being in charge of a dog and failing to pick up dog faeces.

After a hearing at Scarborough Magistrates Court on Friday 13 February the man was fined £400 and ordered to pay £150 costs and £40 victim surcharge in his absence.

Russell Camm, Scarborough Borough Council Dog Warden said:

"We view dog fouling as one of our main priorities and will continue to not only proactively target problem areas, but also robustly enforce the legislation throughout the whole of the borough."

"It is clear that the majority of dog owners behave responsibly with their dogs, although there is an irresponsible minority that do not. We encourage people to report any incidents of dog fouling to us so that we can look to pursue the culprits and where possible, deal with them with the full power of the law."

"We would like to remind dog owners that under the Fouling of Land by Dogs Order 2012 for the Borough of Scarborough, it is an offence to allow a dog to foul in any area open to the public, without the person who is in charge of the dog clearing up the mess immediately."

Incidents of dog fouling can be reported by visiting and using the 'do it online' facility, by email to or by calling 01723 232323.
