The Vamps Play Scarborough Open Air Theatre as Part of Summer Tour

The Vamps

YouTube success story, The Vamps, have announced a show at Scarborough's Open Air Theatre on Saturday 20 June as part of their summer tour.

The British pop band consist of Brad Simpson, James McVey, Connor Ball and Tristan Evans who first found fame in 2012 with cover songs uploaded to YouTube.

The Vamps have gone on to to clock up fifteen million hits online, secure a major recording deal and support the likes of McFly, The Wanted, JLS, Little Mix, Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift.

In September 2013 The Vamps released their debut single "Can We Dance", which debuted at number two, and have since gone on to have five Top 10 singles and two sold out arena tours.

Lead guitarist James said:

"YouTube opened all of this for us. It's not an understatement to say that without it, we wouldn't be a band. We've been able to put our music online without any real trouble and got our videos in front of a big audience. It used to be that bands had to wander around record stores and TV stations begging to have their music heard. We're very lucky that we have the online thing where we can just put a track on the internet and get an immediate reaction. It's mind-blowing."

The band have already been very busy in 2015 visiting Australia, Japan and the Philippine. Their biggest headline tour to date starts in Glasgow on 17 April and includes two shows at London's O2 Arena, the first of which sold out in a matter of minutes.

Cllr David Chance, the council’s Cabinet Member for Tourism and Culture said:

"It’s fabulous that we've secured The Vamps. What the band members have achieved in such a short space of time is phenomenal. Not only does it demonstrate their obvious talent, but also the power of online music audiences. This signing is completely different to what we've secured so far this year and we’re confident that the band will be a massive hit with younger fans."

Tickets to see The Vamps at Scarborough Open Air Theatre are priced at £37 and go on sale from Saturday 28 February at 9am from Scarborough Open Air Theatre box office (01723 818111).

Tickets are also available from The Sands office in Scarborough’s North Bay,,, and local tourist information centres.
