Highly Acclaimed Coming of Age Tale 'Secret Diaries' to Play at the SJT

Secret Diaries

Art with Heart, a not-for-profit organisation encouraging young people into the arts, is bringing the highly acclaimed 'Secret Diaries' to the Stephen Joseph Theatre later this month.

A moving coming of age tale Secret Diaries is described as declaring war on the girl stealing your best friend, realising you're gay, falling in love… and keeping a diary.

Inspired by real events, Secret Diaries is the story of Hayley, a girl finding her way in the world. From awkward teenager to present day and the responsibilities of adulthood, and set to a soundtrack of ‘80s and ‘90s smash hits, Secret Diaries is an inclusive, honest story which challenges opinions on friendship, love, society, family values and discrimination.

This highly acclaimed play spans significant shifts in political and cultural history, from strikes, spandex and Section 28 in the ‘80s through to the passing of equal marriage rights for same sex couples. It reflects a change in people; from teenagers slamming doors and falling in love, to deciding as an adult if you still need your parents’ approval. If you want to relive your youth, be blasted back to the past and bounced into the present then Secret Diaries is for you.

Presented by Art with Heart, this compelling and thought-provoking play was named 2013 Theatre Production of the Year in the Co-operative Respect Awards.

Secret Diaries can be seen at the SJT at 7.45pm on Wednesday 18 March.

Tickets, priced from £10 to £15, are available from the Box Office on 01723 370541 and online at Under 30s’ tickets at £6 are available in person from the Box Office on proof of ID.
