REVIEW: The Simon & Garfunkel Story at Scarborough Spa

Simon & Garfunkel Story Review

To find two guys who look like the legendary Simon & Garfunkel is one thing, but to find two guys who can then go on to sing and play like them as well is something else again.

Somehow Dean Elliott and Jonny Smart, not only manage this but take it to a whole new level, by bringing charm, wit and charisma to their parts too.

Ably backed by a three piece rock band, the boys churn out hit after hit, with clarity and style. Every hit made famous by Simon & Garfunkel is here in this wonderful show and in some cases you would be hard pressed to tell Dean & Jonny from Simon & Art.

For me, the best songs were when just Dean & Jonny were onstage with just an acoustic guitar for accompaniment, but when the whole band were playing the audience were singing and clapping along, and it was clear that everyone was having a great time.

Rarely, if ever, have I seen two grown men enjoying themselves on stage as much as Dean & Jonny, and their joy was infectious.

The second half was even better than the first, and rocked along at a terrific pace, but for me the highlight of the night was listening to Jonny Smart as Art Garfunkel, singing "Bridge over troubled water" in just the most perfect way imaginable. For me it was even better than the original.

The whole audience rose to their collective feet after this beautiful ballad, and many were, like me,, crying with joy. A fabulous show.
