Scarborough Hotel Prices Among The Best Value in The UK

'Grand Hotel', Scarborough, North Yorkshire Coast by Philip Edmondson

A new report has named Scarborough's hotels as some of the best value in the UK.

The Hotel Price Index, a regular report on the movement in hotel prices by Hotels.com, showed that the average price paid by Scarborough travellers was £61 per room per night in 2014, up 4 per cent on the previous year.

Scarborough tied with Blackpool for second place in the list of the UK's best value hotels, been pipped to first by Bradford where the average price for a room was £51 a night.

The data showed that growing home-grown consumer confidence and an increased number of inbound visitors had combined to lift the country's average room rate by 2% to £104.

The most expensive place in the UK was the small Scottish town of St Andrews where prices averaged £156 per room per night in 2014. The 2014 rate represents a rise of five per cent on the previous year, thought to have been partly due to golf’s Ryder Cup at Gleneagles in September.

St Andrews was above London, at £136, Oxford at £127, Bath at £120 and Windsor at £118. The only place in the top 10 which had hotel rooms averaging under £100 a night was the channel island of Jersey.
