Godber's Classic Comedy Bouncers on Tour at the SJT

John Godber’s international hit comedy Bouncers is on tour to the Stephen Joseph Theatre from 12 to 16 May.

The new production, written and directed by the BAFTA-winning playwright, was first seen in 2014 and returned this year on a nationwide tour taking in 20 venues.

It is co-produced by the John Godber Company and Theatre Royal Wakefield and follows recent revivals of Godber’s Teechers and On the Piste to the SJT stage.

A contemporary classic, Bouncers premiered at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 1977 and has since been translated across the world. It was named one of the top 100 plays of the 20th century by the National Theatre.

Lucky Eric, Judd, Les and Ralph are the original men in black as they tell the tale of one night in a Yorkshire disco in the ‘80s in this outrageous parody of Saturday Night Fever! All the gang are out on the town, the boys, the girls, the cheesy DJ, the late night kebab man and the taxi home, all under the watchful eyes of the Bouncers.

The multi-award-winning play features a frightening array of northern talent: Adrian Hood (Brassed Off, The Syndicate) as Judd, Frazer Hammill (Teechers - Hull Truck) as Les, Robert Hudson (Red Riding, The Bill) as Lucky Eric and Theatre Royal Wakefield’s pantomime Dame Chris Hannon (Lunch Monkeys, Being Sold, Topsy & Tim) as Ralph.

Bouncers can be seen in The Round at the SJT from Tuesday 12 May to Saturday 16 May at 7.30pm each night except Thursday when there is an earlier performance at 7pm, plus matinees at 1.30pm on Thursday 14 May and 2.30pm on Saturday 16 May. Tickets, priced from £10 to £24.50, are available from Box Office on 01723 370541 and online at
