REJECTED: New Multiplex Cinema Plans Knocked Back by Councillors

Military Adventure Park

Plans for a new multiplex cinema on the site of the former Atlantis water park in Peasholm Gap have been rejected by Councillors earlier this month.

The proposed new seven screen cinema would have been located to the west of the site, facing Burniston Road, encompassing the area currently occupied by a Military Adventure Park.

Although planning officers had previously recommended the new development for approval, Councillors rejected the plans due to concerns on how it impact the town centre.

Those apposed to the development instead urged the council to push ahead with a separate proposal for a five screen cinema on the site of North Street car park, planning permission for which was granted in 2008, but has since lapsed.

The rejection of the North Bay cinema plans will have no affect the new multi-million pound water park nearby which is currently under construction.
