Aerobatic Formation Wingwalking Team To Thrill Crowds at Scarborough Armed Forces Day

The world’s only aerobatic formation wingwalking team will take to the skies as the star attraction at Scarborough’s Armed Forces Day on Saturday 27 June.

The Breitling Wingwalkers from UK based AeroSuperBatics, which are seen live by over six million spectators each year in the UK, will perform a breathtaking sequence of acrobatic manoeuvres and handstands while strapped to the top wings of the team's beautiful Boeing Stearman biplanes.

The team pilots will fly the striking orange Breitling liveried aircraft at speeds of up to 140mph through a well-rehearsed energetic routine of dazzling aerobatics and close formation flypasts above the South Bay as the wingwalkers wave at the crowd below. These manoeuvres include loops, rolls, stall turns and even inverted flight, during which the wingwalkers experience ‘G’ forces of up to 4G.

For the impressive ‘Cockpit Lady’ pass, the daring wingwalkers will leave the safety of their static harness and climb down to the cockpit during flight. While standing in front of the pilot's windscreen they will perform a balletic pose as they soar above the Armed Forces Day crowd at 100 mph.

Programme of thrilling displays and interactive exhibits announced for this year's Armed Forces Day

The team members taking part in the display will be wingwalkers Freya Paterson and Lydia Beadle and pilots David Barrell and Martyn Carrington. Freya in particular is looking forward to visiting Scarborough and said:
"I am so excited to be displaying at Scarborough Armed Forces Day as I live in Yorkshire. This is my fourth year as a Breitling Wingwalker, but the first time I will be displaying in my home county."
Based in Gloucestershire, the team is renowned for dazzling spectators at events throughout the UK and Europe. It has also performed in India, Japan, Australia, China and the Middle East.
