Local Greyhound Owners Invited to Join Great British Greyhound Walk at Burniston

Great British Greyhound Walk

Greyhounds, lurchers and their owners will be putting their best paw forward on Sunday 21st June to celebrate the fifth Great British Greyhound Walk (GBGW).

Hounds and humans will be walking simultaneously at a number of parks, woods, beaches and heaths up and down the country, with the Bridlington & District Retired Greyhound Trust welcoming local sight hound owners to join them in a walk at The Barn Bistro in Burniston.

Lynette Phillips said:
"I've arranged several walks for GBGW and we're hoping for a huge turnout of local sight hounds.  The idea of the walk is to particularly celebrate retired racing greyhounds, to raise awareness and promote them as wonderful family pets once their racing days are over."
"Greyhounds make great companions; they adore human company, are gentle, docile and loving and walk really well on the lead.  Contrary to popular belief, greyhounds don't require much exercise just two 20 minute walks a day suits them but of course they enjoy longer walks too."
“We would be delighted if local greyhounds, lurchers, other sight hounds and their owners joined us on the 21st to help us make the Great British Greyhound Walk of 2015 even more successful than last year.  Our walk starts at 10.30am from The Barn Bistro and will last about an hour.  There is no need to book, just turn up but anyone can call me 01262 609343 for more information. Full details are available on The Barn Bistro’s website www.thebarnbistro.com"
Janet Peacock, founder of the Greyhound Walks charity who along with her team of volunteers masterminded the first GBGW in 2010 said:
"Last year we had record breaking 3370 hounds out walking in the UK and for the first time, 529 in various locations across the world.  Quite an achievement!  So this year we are aiming even higher and are hoping to get well over 4000 dogs and their owners walking on the 21st  of June.  All of the 2015 walks are listed on our website www.greatbritishgreyhoundwalk.org.uk."
