Soprano Debra Morley Joins The Spa Orchestra For 'A Night in Vienna'

Soprano Debra Morley

The Scarborough Spa Orchestra's biggest audience every year is for their concert of Johann Strauss and other Viennese music on New Year's Day when up to a thousand people pack the Spa Grand Hall.  This music has always been popular, but in recent years the appearance of Andre Rieu has made it even more so with his sell-out concerts and chart-topping recordings.

A similar concert is promised on Thursday 2nd July at 7.45pm, when the music of Strauss and company will be played by the orchestra with the added bonus of a vocalist.

Debra Morley's extensive experience has taken her from Gilbert and Sullivan (including the D'Oyly Carte Company) to the Edinburgh Festival and London's Royal Albert Hall.  Abroad, she has toured throughout Europe and as far away as Japan.

Debra is well known to Spa audiences and will add to the programme of Strauss waltzes with her singing of well-known songs including those of the ever popular Franz Lehar.  The evening will end with a great selection from Lehar's most famous operetta The Merry Widow.

One of Johann Strauss's most familiar waltzes, Voices of Spring, will be given an extra touch when Debra joins the orchestra in a rarely heard vocal version.

Lively overtures, lilting waltzes, exciting polkas and the well-known melodies of the songs make this an evening of great variety and guaranteed light musical entertainment.

Tickets for 'Reel Music' are priced at £11, with children going free with a paying adult. Tickets are available from The Spa’s Box Office (01723) 821888 and via
