Summer Seaside 'Collections Close-Up' At Scarborough Museums Trust

Summertime Swing
What links: a Box Brownie camera, an ice cream ‘licker’, theatre souvenirs, postcards and summer dresses from the 30s and 50s?

The answer, of course, is a trip to the seaside, which will be the focus of the next Collections Close-up at Scarborough Art Gallery on Tuesday 7 July.

Scarborough Museums Trust Collections Assistant Julie Baxter will take a look at some highlights of the Trust’s seaside collection, and says:
"The event will be based on all the lovely things a visitor can do, see and experience when coming to Scarborough for their holidays."

"We’ll look at a Box Brownie camera, a transistor radio, brochures from the Pavilion and Raven Hall Hotels, some lovely Pavilion Hotel copper cups which were possibly used in the kitchens, an ice cream licker, postcards, souvenirs, theatre brochures, and of course two gorgeous summer dresses – one from the 1930s, the other from the 1950s."

"We’ll also looks at some pictures of the pierrots for which Scarborough was so famous."
The monthly Close-ups feature a themed selection of items from the Scarborough Collections, each one explained by a member of the Scarborough Museums Trust team.

Collections Close-ups take place on the first Tuesday of each month. Each takes around an hour, and participants are asked to meet at Scarborough Art Gallery at 2.30pm.

Places on the event are £2 each. Places are limited, so booking is recommended. To book, or for further information, please call the Art Gallery on 01723 374753.
