Council Confirm Arrangements For 2015 Horse Fair

Seamer Horse Fair by Bryan Ledgard

Scarborough Borough Council, in conjunction with North Yorkshire Police, has finalised arrangements for this year's horse fair, which will take place in the Seamer area of Scarborough on Wednesday 15 July.

This year's horse fair site is the same field as last year, located just off the B1261 between Seamer and Crossgates. The site will be open to travellers attending the annual horse fair from 5.00am on Saturday 11 July until 6.00pm on Wednesday 15 July.

Facilities will be provided for the travellers including the provision of an onsite water supply via standpipes and a horse trough in the adjacent dell, as well as portable toilets and a daily refuse collection service. Travellers will be charged a fee for staying on the site.

Stall holders will also be charged a fee of £60 per stall, which will permit them to trade on the day of the horse fair.

The council is once again employing site managers who will be on site 24 hours a day for the entire time the site is open. They will collect site fees from travellers, ensure the site is managed safely, ensure that site rules are adhered to and that disturbance to local residents is kept to a minimum. Like last year, closed circuit television (CCTV) will assist in the monitoring of the site on a round the clock basis.

Local residents should be reassured that North Yorkshire Police will once again be providing support as appropriate to partner agencies to ensure that the event is managed safely.

North Yorkshire County Council Trading Standards will visit the site to check traders are acting legally and responsibly and the RSPCA will attend to ensure the welfare of horses and other animals.
