English Heritage To Join Scarborough Food Fair

English Heritage Food

English Heritage, which cares for Scarborough's iconic twelfth century Castle, will take a stall at Scarborough's Food Fair starting this month through to Christmas.

The organisation, which looks after 400 historic buildings, monuments and sites, will attend the popular Scarborough Food Fair from Saturday 18th July.

Wares for sale will include specially made fruit wines, mead, jams, chutneys and curds, bringing English Heritage products direct to the foodie folk of Scarborough.

Simon Roe, Site Manager at Scarborough Castle, said:
"Taking part in the Scarborough Food Fair is an ideal opportunity to 'spread the word' about our work at Scarborough Castle and at our other sites in Yorkshire and further afield."
"English Heritage has a range of specially created food gifts, ideal for selling at a market. We will also be giving people information about Scarborough Castle, which attracts over 70,000 visitors a year."
"To help promote the Castle and English Heritage, we could even have a very special guest – maybe a knight in shining armour or perhaps a medieval soldier – either way, there'll be fun on the day when we can mix food, history and heritage on the streets of Scarborough."
The Castle, which commands views of both the North and South Bays of the town, includes the unmistakable tower, built between 1159 and 1169 by King Henry II. The medieval walls are also a key historical feature of the site, which includes the ruins of a Roman signal station within its grounds.

Scarborough Food Fair is now in it fifth month of trading, and is set to attract over a dozen stalls selling the finest produce.

Caroline Anderson of The Market Managers, which organises Scarborough Food Fair, said:
"We are delighted English Heritage are joining us as a regular stall holder. Scarborough has an immense history and it’s a great opportunity to promote the heritage of the town as well as sell great food."
"We are also looking forward to meeting the special guest on the day – I am sure there will be some great photo opportunities!"
Scarborough Fair is a joint venture between Scarborough Borough Council and organisers of the highly successful Malton Monthly Food Market.

Scarborough Food Fair will take place on the third Saturday each month until November from 9.30am – 4pm. There will be a special festive two day market on Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th December.
