Scarborough's Historic Water Chute Named As One Of UK's Top Ten Vintage Seaside Attractions

Inspired by the reopening of Dreamland in Margate the Guardian have put together a round up of what they believe are the UK's best vintage seaside attractions.

The short-list includes all kinds of old fashioned fun, from pier shows to the UK’s oldest theme park, and there's even a spot for Scarborough's very own water chute

The historic chute, situated next to Scarborough's Open Air Theatre, originally opened in 1932, after taking four years to build.

Riders sit in a boat-shaped carriage which is released from the top of the 'chute', sending passengers hurtling towards the boating lake. After an initial splash, which inevitably soaks many of those on board, the 'boat' drifts slowly across the lake, before being hoisted back up the chute.

In 1985 the ride became part of Kinderland and is now operated by the North Bay Railway Company who refurbished the ancient attraction in 2008.

The Historic Water Chute opens every day from 11am-4.30pm, May-Sept (subject to weather) and costs £2.20 per person for two rides.
