Scarborough Spa Orchestra: Funny Business

Scarborough Spa Orchestra

In complete contrast to their Three Tenors Gala Concert, the Scarborough Spa Orchestra presents an evening of comedy, humour and music on Thursday 3rd September at 7.45pm.

Funny Business returns by audience request after a gap of a few years.  It features Musical Director, Paul Laidlaw, and the Orchestra’s Librarian, Stephen Walker, in a programme of comic songs, monologues and sketches.

Paul studied music and piano at university and has had a busy musical career.  He also has experience as a professional actor, having worked throughout the UK and on stage at the Royal National Theatre and other major West End venues.

Stephen was an English student at Oxford University and took up a career in teaching, but he never lost his links with the theatre and has appeared in or directed well over 60 productions of plays and musicals at local theatres.

Together Paul and Stephen will perform songs by Flanders and Swann and Noel Coward amongst others.  Their comedy items will feature pieces written by Victoria Wood, Harold Pinter, Robb Wilton and other sketches from the world of revue.

The Spa Orchestra will bind the evening together with music specially chosen to link in with the theme of Funny Business.

This gala concert promises to be something out of the ordinary and a true entertainment for everyone to enjoy.

Tickets for ‘Funny Business’ are priced at £11, with children going free with a paying adult. Tickets are available from The Spa’s Box Office (01723) 821888 and via
