Local Writers Share Their Secrets in Plays & Pinot at The SJT

Stephen Joseph Theatre

Local writers are inviting you to listen in on their secrets at the Stephen Joseph Theatre, Scarborough.

Eight new works, penned by members of the theatre’s OutReach creative writing class, will be performed in this year’s Plays and Pinot event.

Led by tutor Alison Watt, these 20-minute rehearsed play readings, on the theme Share Our Secrets, are directed by Associate Director Henry Bell and delivered by local actors, highlighting the wealth of talent that exists in the town.

Surprising, moving and humorous, there’s a story for everyone and a complimentary glass of wine to wash the words down.

Creative writing course tutor Alison Watt said:

“Drama has often dealt with tales touching on hidden intrigue and shock reveals, look at Oedipus, Macbeth or the soaps. That’s why secrets has been such an exciting theme to work on for this mini-festival of new writing.

“Knowing what an amazing set of scripts these local writers have created, I, for one, can’t wait to see the work finally performed and appreciated by an audience. There’s brooding drama, sparkling comedy and mystery here aplenty - a secret for every taste!”

There will also be a chance to talk to the writers about their plays on the evenings of the performances.

Plays and Pinot takes place at the Stephen Joseph Theatre on Sunday 20 and Monday 21 September at 7pm. Four works will be performed each night.

Tickets, priced at £6, are available from the box office on 01723 370541 and online at
