Tom Townsend by Anthony Goodall

Musician, songwriter and Scarborough UK Awards winner Tom Townsend returns to the Stephen Joseph Theatre for a night of jazz, blues, soul, gospel and Americana on 8 October.

Having spent the last year recording and writing, the multi-talented musician and songwriter - who was recently voted the best musician in Scarborough in the Scarborough UK Awards - promises another stunning show in his fourth consecutive year at the theatre.

Together with a stunning nine-piece ensemble comprising some of the finest musicians in the country, Tom performs an original set with passion, pride and pleasure.

This year features an exclusive premiere of a brand new percussion piece, inspired by Evelyn Glennie, with special guest artists and showcasing local 16-year-old musician Ben Quilter on xylophone and percussion.

The ensemble is completed by Paul Tilley (percussion) and Dave Kemp (saxophone and accordion) from Scarborough, and Paul Baxter (double bass), Martin Longhawn (piano), Steve Hanley (drums), Stuart MacDonald (saxophone), Tom Sharp (trumpet) and Tom Ianson (trombone) all from the thriving Leeds music scene.

Tom Townsend said:

"I’m really pleased to be returning to the Stephen Joseph Theatre for another big show. We’ve got a huge ensemble, new material, classics and some covers which you might not expect. It's a dream come true to have such an incredible group of players on the show, they play with such style, feel and finesse and have given so much time and effort to familiarise themselves with my music. I also can’t wait for audiences to hear a new piece I’ve written for a great local percussionist, Ben Quilter, who’s a real rising star."

Tom Townsend and friends can be seen at the Stephen Joseph Theatre on Thursday 8 October at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced from £10 to £15 are available from the box office on 01723 370541 and online at Under 30s’ tickets at £6 are available in person on proof of ID.
