Two Special Gala Nights Are Set For The Spa Orchestra

Scarborough Spa Orchestra

Enjoy two special gala concerts presented by the Scarborough Spa Orchestra.

Wednesday 9th September is the day when we celebrate the Queen becoming the nation’s longest-ever serving monarch. To mark this very special occasion, the Spa Orchestra has devised a programme of music which will illustrate may of the facets of her life.

Called Happy and Glorious, the evening starts at 7.45pm and will include such pieces as the march Down the Mall, the descriptive piece Horse Guards, the coronation march Crown Imperial and Land of Hope and Glory. The Queen was born in April, so this will be marked with an item called April’s Lady. It is known that her favourite musical is Oklahoma, so a selection of the well-known tunes from this show will also feature along with many other relevant choices of music.

All of the musical items will be accompanied by pictures from the Queen’s life and reign projected on to the big screen above the Orchestra.

Thursday 10th September, will see an equally special occasion.  It may not be widely known, but Scarborough offers more musical opportunities to young people than most towns in the country. The Saturday morning Music Centre sessions cater for very large numbers of budding musicians, giving them the chance to enjoy the thrill and pleasure of playing together in combinations ranging from recorder groups to concert bands and full orchestra.

On Thursday, teenagers from the Scarborough Area Youth Symphony Orchestra (SAYSO) will join forces on the Spa stage with the professional musicians of the Spa Orchestra. It will be a big occasion for them, but also an important event for Scarborough, celebrating the fact that live music is alive and well in the town. And, more importantly, music has a sure and secure future in Scarborough.

These are young people who are learning music, learning to work together creatively, and learning the skills of positive co-operation. They deserve our full support!

Tickets for ‘Happy and Glorious’ and ‘Young Musicians At The Spa’ are priced at £11, with children going free with a paying adult. Tickets are available from The Spa’s Box Office (01723) 821888 and via www.scarboroughspa.co.uk
