Scarborough Chocolatier Reaches Semi-Finalists of Major Competition

Winter Spice Chocolate Drops

Local chocolatier Amelia's Chocolate has been representing Scarborough at the UK’s biggest chocolate celebration.

Local chocolate maker Amelia Scholey travelled to London this October at the semi-finals of the Great British Spiced Chocolate Challenge after her delicious new chocolate was recognised as some of the best in the country.

Speaking of the experience Amelia said:

"One evening I was scrolling through twitter when I saw Great British Spiced Chocolate Challenge. I thought it sounded interesting so I looked further and when I saw the prize - the winners product fast-tracked into Selfridge’s Food Hall for Christmas and a trip to Grenada - I thought well it’s got to be worth a shot even just for some fun. So I entered."

"I got the information through a few days later and was dead excited to come up with a new chocolate. As I’m not the biggest fan of spices I thought I’d do a tasting night to let other people taste a few different choices and see which was there favourite."

"I came up with Milk Chocolate Apple & Cinnamon Drops, Milk Chocolate Orange and Cloves, Orange and Cloves, Dark Chocolate Wasabi drops and Winter Spice Chocolate drop. The Winter Spice & Orange and Cloves came joint top but after discussion it was decided that I would enter the Winter Spice as it was a Spice competition."

With that, Amelia shipped off a batch of her Winter Spice chocolate drops to London where judges were so impressed, they put them through the semi-finals of the competition.

On hearing of her success Amelia said:

"I couldn’t believe it! I, Amelia, had got through to the semi-finals of the GBSCC."

Last week Amelia headed down to London to do a tasting morning at Selfridges Food Hall, where her Winter Spice drops went on sale for the whole of Chocolate week.

The finalists of the Great British Spiced Chocolate Challenge were announced at The Chocolate Show on Friday. Unfortunately Amelia's Winter Spice Drops didn't take top spot, but they were still rated amongst the best in the country.

The eventual winner was 19 year old Zara Snell, who's Moroccan Rose chocolates were the judges favourites.

Want to try Amelia's Winter Spice Chocolate Drops for yourself? Well you can, but be quick, they are strictly a limited edition, so they won't be around for long. Buy them here.
