Coastival Choir

Are you in good voice and want to be a part of Scarborough’s exciting arts event Coastival?

If so, the organisers want to hear from you as they begin planning the Coastival Choir for February 2016’s festival.

The Coastival Choir was one of the big success stories of this year’s festival and now the plan is to make it even better for 2016.

The choir will meet and rehearse between now and February’s festival, when they will join other choirs from the area for a concert on the Saturday. The choir will also take part in the event A Band Anyone Can Join with Hope and Social, again during Coastival Saturday on 14th February.

Coastival’s organisers, Scarborough-based arts development agency Create, are looking forward to bringing the choir back.

Director Wendy Holroyd said:

"The Coastival Choir was a great success this year and the dozen or so performers who joined did a fantastic job and were a brilliant part of our choir concert"

"We want to build on that this year and create a superb choir who can once again do itself proud during Coastival."

Rehearsals start on Tuesday 13th October from 1pm to 2.30pm at Scarborough Art Gallery and will run each Tuesday until 15th December.

They will resume again after Christmas and run from 12th January to 9th February, at the same time.

The choir will be led by Bridget Cousins, who has 20 years’ experience of leading community choirs.

Members will be learning a capella songs inspired by the theme of next year’s Coastival: Celebrating the Yorkshire Coast.

To sign up for rehearsals get in touch with or call 01723 384545.

Coastival 2016 returns to the three-day format and will feature music, theatre, fine arts, installations and entertainment for children.

Rock band Cast will headline with a concert at the Spa Grand Hall on the evening of Friday 12th February, supported by Two Skies.

Popular saxophonist Snake Davis will play at the Spa during the afternoon of Saturday 13th February, supported by Jazz Aesthetic.

Asian Dub Foundation will headline at the Spa on the evening of Saturday 13th February, supported by Project 12.

Meanwhile, A Band Anyone Can Join will see local musicians join Leeds-based rock band Hope and Social on stage at the Spa Grand

Hall for a unique participation concert on 14th February from 2.30pm. To get involved in A Band Anyone Can Join, please contact Create on 01723 384545 or email
