The Carpenters Story

One of the greatest decades for live music may be behind us, but soon you can re-live the songs of one of the greatest bands of the 1970s at Scarborough Spa.

Often regarded as one of the first ever tribute shows, The Carpenters Story will bring the smooth rhythms and beautiful vocal harmonies to The Spa’s Theatre on Saturday 17th October.

The Carpenters Story is set to take you on a magical musical journey spanning three decades. Featuring all the songs that made The Carpenters a legend in the world of music including: They Long to be Close To You, We’ve Only Just Begun, I Won’t Last a Day Without You, Please Mr Postman, Solitaire and lots more.

Claire Furley performs as Karen Carpenter, delivering an uncanny representation of this well-known musician. As an award winning classically trained singer Claire is certainly familiar with music performance. Not only has she toured with The Carpenters Story over the past 17 years but she has a range of musical skills including piano, violin, ukulele, guitar and flute.

Also recreating the sounds of The Carpenters is Phil Aldridge, who not only put the show together back in 1991 but has acted as Musical Director ever since. Phil has carefully crafted the arrangements within this show over the years, and Richard Carpenter himself even said “It is well played and very accurate, I’m flattered!”

The Carpenters were one of the well-loved pop groups of the 70’s and they still have a huge following of both young and old fans today. The duo were known for bringing romance back to the forefront of pop music, combining elegantly blended lyrics with lavish musical arrangements that charmed millions.
