Free Sports Training Day at University Campus Scarborough For People of All Abilities
A free sports training day at University Campus Scarborough later this month has one winning goal – to make physical activity and sport accessible to everyone.
The day-long event on Friday, November 27, has been organised as an introduction to new sports that can be enjoyed by people of all abilities.
Organised by the campus in partnership with Sport England and North Yorkshire Sport, it includes a workshop in the morning followed by an afternoon session allowing participants to see the theory put into practice.
There will be demonstrations of a range of sporting and leisure activities, including Walking Football, Goalball, Boccia and Sitting Volleyball.
Guests include a former Mayor of Scarborough and the borough council’s portfolio holder for leisure, Councillor Andrew Backhouse.
Organisers of the event say it will also give visitors the perfect opportunity to see for themselves what the campus and its conference facilities have to offer.
Giles Davidson, Acting Principal of the campus, said:
"The idea is to give people the chance to learn practical ways of making physical activity and sport accessible to all. They will discover new sports that are being enjoyed by people of all abilities and the message is very much that no experience is necessary."
"The day includes lunch and is ideal for carers, support workers, parents, volunteers and members of community groups. It is all about being social, being active and being inclusive and we think that is a great message to get across."
