Local Business Offers Choco-lots of Support For Charities
As well as creating delicious goodies Amelia's Chocolate have also been busy supporting local people, events and charities this year, helping them to raise much needed funds.
Each month local indie-business Amelia's Chocolate supports a different charity, making them their 'Charity of the Month'. Sometimes it's by donating their fabulous chocolate to be used as prizes, sometimes it's vouchers and other times it's by donating their time.
The initiative started in January which saw Amelia's Chocolate support local lady Sherry Humphries by donating a £10 voucher for her to use at a darts fundraising match to raise money for Diabetes UK. Sherry also ran London marathon and raised a total of £935.
In February the Amelia's Chocolate team gave up their time to attend the 'Go Georgie Go' Valentines Ball with their Chocolate Fountain. The event raised an amazing £1200 on the night.
Scarborough Mountain Rescue were the beneficiaries in March when the local chocolatiers ran a competition in store to win our large Chocolate Bunny which raised £60.
In April they donated a voucher to Ellie’s Fund who used it for their Summer Extravaganza which raised over £2,000 which was shared with Marie Curie. Several Easter eggs were also donated to St Catherine’s Hospice and the Children’s Ward at Scarborough Hospital.
Graham School gratefully received a voucher in May for their Rock Challenge and in June chocolate bars were donated to 15th Scarborough Girl Guides Bingo Night to raise money for their trip to Paris.
In July Amelia and her team donated several products to Scarborough Sea Cadets to be used on their many tombolas to raise money for their trips and running of the unit.
During September the team took part in Macmillian's Largest Coffee Morning where £64 was raised and in October the first annual Choctoberfest raised over £80 for Breast Cancer Care - a charity close to the heart's of the Amelia’s Chocolate team.
In November a prize was donated to Scarborough and Locals Together (SaLT) for their Christmas competition and December's donation is yet to be revealed.
Business owner Amelia Scholey said:
"We are very proud not to only donate these products but also work with some of the local Charities in helping them raise money by making their raffle prizes at cost price. We worked with Legs for Angel for their Easter Raffle and they managed to raised £800."
"St Catherine’s Hospice also came to us for the 2nd year running for their Easter Egg Raffle and they raised an amazing £4,500. We have also just done their Christmas Raffle so if you see Chocolate Christmas Tree with a Reindeer and Santa be sure to have a go and help them raise lots of money. They also have one of our Big Santas up at the Hospice for a Raffle."
As if that's not enough you'll also find a recycling bin located in the shop where you can drop off items to be recycled and charity Calendars on sale, both helping to raise money for Ellie’s Fund.
