The Holly and the Ivy – Collections Close-up at Scarborough Art Gallery
The origins of some of our best-known Christmas traditions come under the spotlight at Scarborough Art Gallery on Wednesday 2 December in the next Collections Close-up.
Did Father Christmas always dress in red? Why do we pull crackers and kiss under the mistletoe? How far back do these traditions stretch? Collections Manager Jennifer Dunne will explore how the Scarborough Collections can help us to answer some of these yuletide questions.
The monthly Close-ups feature a themed selection of items from the Scarborough Collections, each one explained by a member of the Scarborough Museums Trust team.
Collections Close-ups take place on the first Wednesday of each month (please note new day – these events were previously held on Tuesdays). Each takes around an hour, and participants are asked to meet at Scarborough Art Gallery at 2.30pm.
Places on the event are free, but are limited, so booking is recommended. To book, or for further information, please call the Art Gallery on 01723 374753.
