Scarborough Teen's Fake Tan Fail Goes Viral
A local teen's fake tan fail photo has gone viral after she shared her misfortune on Facebook.Imogen Silversides, aged 17 from Scarborough, was inspired to try a new self-tanning technique that she'd seen on Facebook - but the experiment didn't quite go as planned.
The so called 'life hack' was posted by Amy Ridley, who promoted the benefits of applying fake tan using a paint roller, suggesting that it helped her to achieve a deep, streak-free tan without getting any on her hands.
After spotting the beauty tip, Imogen followed the advice, but instead of ending up with a smooth, even tan, she was left looking the same colour as the "dining room table".
Imogen posted a picture of her fake tanning fail on Facebook as a warning to others stating:
"Who ever the girl was that recommend to apply fake tan with a paint roller is one lying ****. Don't think I'll be at work Friday"
The photo has since gone viral, receiving over 41,000 likes on Facebook and being featured in the national press including BBC, Daily Mail, Huffington Post, Cosmopolitan, Daily Mirror, The Sun and OK Magazine.
Miss Silversides told Cosmopolitan magazine:
"My boyfriend said that I wanted to look hot, but that I ended up looking burnt and couldn't stop laughing. Basically everyone who saw me like this just burst out laughing as they couldn't believe what had happened. They all thought that I had done this as a joke but it was actually a genuine mistake!
"I Face-timed my friend Elsie May Bourne and she just burst out crying with laughter for ages. I also got my boyfriend's mum Marie Carr to take a photo of me which i then posted on Facebook to show my friends. This photo went viral!"
