Appeal for Tour de Yorkshire 'Tour Makers'

Tour de Yorkshire Tour Makers

Scarborough Borough Council is renewing Welcome to Yorkshire’s appeal for Tour Makers in the borough and wider North Yorkshire area.

Passionate and reliable volunteers are still needed in the county to act as Tour Makers for the second Tour de Yorkshire between Friday 29 April and Sunday 1 May. Tour Makers are a crucial part of the spirit of the race and are the welcoming face of Yorkshire for spectators.

Anyone interested in becoming a Tour Maker needs to complete a short online survey, which can be found at:

Volunteers will need to attend a police led training session and be available for the race weekend on Friday 29 April, Saturday 30 April and Sunday 1 May.

The 2016 Tour de Yorkshire will mark the third return for Tour Makers, following the Tour de France in 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire in 2015.

Cllr Andrew Backhouse, Scarborough Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Leisure and Culture said:
“We really want to give local people in every town and village on the route of the Tour de Yorkshire this special opportunity to become a Tour de Yorkshire volunteer.

“The army of Tour Makers chosen for the Tour de France in 2014 and the inaugural Tour de Yorkshire were a massive part of the success story and their role in giving hundreds of thousands of spectators a warm Yorkshire welcome cannot be understated.

“We know there are people out there keen to be a part of the excitement in an active way so this is a great chance for them to get involved in a world-class cycle race, right on their own doorsteps.”

On Stage 1 riders will race from Beverley to Settle. Stage 2 will start in Otley and finish in Doncaster. Stage 3 on Sunday 1 May, the longest of the three stages, will see riders battle it out over a challenging 198km from Middlesbrough, via Whitby, to a grand finale in Scarborough. The full route can be viewed on the official website
