Kids Go Free at Scarborough Sea Life When They Take a Homemade Penguin Birthday Card
Scarborough Sea Life Centre is hosting no fewer than nine penguin birthdays next month and is challenging youngsters to help make each celebration that little bit extra special.Sea Life’s Jessica Mortimer said:
“We would like children under 16 to make their own birthday cards for whichever birthday they plan to come along for, and we’ll let them in free,
“The cards will make a great display and hopefully there’ll be lots of youngsters to see the fun and games when our flock of Humboldt penguins tucks into special fishy birthday cakes.”
The Centre is also offering a prize of a big cuddly penguin for the designer of the card adjudged the best of the month.
The roll call of birthday birds is as follows:
April 6th – George (female) turns 14. She is the oldest flock member by just nine days; April 7th – Sushi (male) is two; April 11th – Calimero (male) is two; April 12th – Gonzo (male) is 12; April 15th – Clumsey (male) is 14; April 17th – Krusty (male) is 12; April 18th – Pinky (female) is six; April 20th – Mavis (female) is 12, and April 25th – Peso (male) is four.
Visiting birthday guests can expect to get nice and close to the celebrations thanks to Sea Life’s unique ‘walk through’ enclosure – Penguin Island.
“All 20 of our residents are now well used to sharing their enclosure with admiring human visitors and they enjoy the attention,
“They can still be nervous of new sights and sounds though, so we will probably have sing ‘Happy Birthday’ very softly.”
