Residents Given Chance to Vote for Favourite Community Projects
Residents in Scarborough will be given the chance to vote for their favourite community projects when local groups and organisations compete for their share of £12,500 of funding from Scarborough Borough Council. The Scarborough Urban Area Forum will host its sixth Voice Your Choice decision-making event on Wednesday 9 March. Residents of the central urban area of Scarborough (Castle, Central, Ramshill, Weaponness, Falsgrave Park, Stepney, Woodlands, Northstead and North Bay wards) aged 11 and above are invited to come along to see a display of 17 community projects. The ‘drop in’ style event will be held at Scarborough Library on Vernon Road. Residents can turn up anytime between 5.00pm and 7.30pm to cast their votes.
This year’s projects will be based around the theme of ‘Empowering Communities’ and will cover the categories of capacity building, opportunity to influence decision-making, communication and increasing participation. Applicants will have to demonstrate how their project links to the theme. Each display will have information about the group’s proposed project and a member of the group will be available to answer any questions.
Residents will be asked to view all project displays and give every project a score between one and five. The projects with the most votes will be awarded funding. The voting process should take no longer than half an hour to complete and it will be a very informal evening with refreshments available. Residents are welcome to stay at the event for the results to be announced at approximately 8.15pm.
The fund is financed by Scarborough Borough Council’s Central Urban Area Committee, which is working in partnership with Scarborough Urban Area Forum to deliver the programme.
