"Thank You Scarborough!" Over 200 Locals Go The Extra Mile for Sport Relief
Over 200 local people turned out in force on Sunday 20 March at the Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Peasholm Park.Milers of all ages were sponsored to walk or run themselves proud around the park, its lake and bridges. The day was a massive success with friends and families joining together to go the extra mile for Sport Relief 2016. The weather was kind to the event with blue sky greeting the participants on arrival and despite a brief rain shower this did not dampen the spirits as people created a fantastic atmosphere with fun very much the order of the day.
Milers wore the official Sport Relief merchandise and there was even an Umpa Lumpa spotted on the course! Sniper Fitness again excelled themselves by taking part as a huge team and the Active Coast & Country team were also there to encourage participants around the course.
Matt Hewison, Scarborough Borough Council Sports Development Officer said:
“It was a fantastic day and it was well worth the time in organising the event to see so many people enjoying the event and raising money for Sport Relief. Watching the community come together to support such a great cause was brilliant! We feel very proud knowing that the money raised will help people living unimaginably tough lives right here on the Yorkshire coast, across the rest of the UK and in some of the world’s poorest countries.”
Sport Relief would like to say a huge thank you to each and every person who has donated money or given their time to go the extra mile.
