Dalby Forest to Come Alive With ‘The Sound of Music’

The forest will be alive with ‘The Sound of Music’ on Saturday 28 May as Pop-up Cinema Yorkshire bring their giant screen to Dalby Forest for a one off screening of the timeless Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Technicolor classic.

The Forestry Commission are working in partnership with Pop up Cinema Yorkshire to provide visitors with a chance to see their favourite films in this unique setting throughout the year. A high quality cinema system will be erected for the events, as well as a range of themed food and drink stalls with a licenced bar.

Pop-up Cinema Yorkshire are part of Scarborough based company Sant’Angelo Events who have previously been responsible for the hugely popular Beached Festival, Scarborough’s Open Air Theatre and the annual firework spectacular ‘Starfire’.

Their cinema screen has been ‘popping-up’ around Yorkshire for the last two years, including their sell-out screening of Withnail & I in February, and Star Wars – The Force Awakens at Dalby in April.

The classic 1960s musical starring Julie Andrews sees former nun Maria becoming the governess for a family of seven children who live in the shadow of their domineering and repressed widower father Captain Von Trapp played by Christopher Plummer. Along with the required discipline Maria brings love, music and excitement into the children's lives and also eventually begins to have an effect on their father.

Events Director Mike Lynskey said, “We’re expecting cinema goers to channel their inner Von Trapp when they join us for this one off screening. We’re hoping everyone will dress-up as nuns, lonely goat herds… even girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes. We’ll also be showing the lyrics to all the songs on the big screen karaoke style, so I hope everyone will bring their best singing voices… Do… Re… Me…”

Tickets are available online at www.popupcinema.org priced at £13.50 for adults and £8.50 for children (including booking fee). Only a limited number of tickets are available, and early booking is essential to ensure a chance to be part of this one off screening.
