Rides Construction Underway at Multi Million Pound Water Park

Alpamare Water Park Scarborough

Construction of the rides that will take centre stage at the eagerly anticipated multi-million pound Alpamare water park on the Yorkshire coast is now underway.

With around two months to go until the alpine themed waterpark opens to the public in Scarborough’s North Bay for the very first time in July, the most visually exciting part of the construction has begun in earnest with the piecing together of the massive brightly coloured sections, which will make up four exhilarating state-of-the-art water slides.

The slides, all different, will be up to 120 metres long and will cater for four-person inflatables, double inflatables and racing mats. 35,000 litres of water per minute will be pumped through the slides, which are being built to optimise speed, to ensure a thrilling ride experience. All the slides have been named based on an alpine skiing theme and have been constructed by internationally renowned water slide manufacturer and water park planner, ProSlide.

The ‘Black Run’ will be the steepest and fastest slide with a drop of 11 metres for guaranteed thrills.

The ‘Cresta Run’ will be based on the world famous Cresta run in St Moritz, which will see riders propelled down the equivalent of a black ski run, head first, on a racing mat.

At more than 116 metres long, the family friendly ‘Olympic Run’ will be the longest of the four slides for a guaranteed fun filled shared ride on a double inflatable.

Signature ride ‘Snow storm’ will be a must for an adrenalin fuelled group experience. Pumping 20,900 litres of water per minute, four person inflatables will hurtle riders down more than 14 metres of twists and turns into the pool below.

Anton Hoefter of Alpamare said:
“Alpamare Scarborough will be a waterpark like no other in the UK. Combining the best of both worlds, thrill seekers will relish the prospect of the super-fast slides and indoor wave pool while those seeking a more chilled out experience will love the relaxing haven of the outdoor iodine infinity pool and European thermal spa with Hamam ritual and Alpine saunas.”

The waterpark will also feature an outdoor family pool with whirlpools and bubble recliners and a restaurant with a wide range of fresh and healthy choices and a large drinks selection.

Once operational, Alpamare Scarborough is expected to employ up to 100 full and part time jobs and generate an additional £6 million for the Yorkshire coast’s tourism economy as local businesses benefit from the additional spend visitors to the waterpark will bring.

David Bloxham of Benchmark Leisure Limited, the developers responsible for delivering the waterpark to Alpamare’s high specification, said:
“This is hugely exciting project to be involved in and we’re delighted with progress on site to date. We’re fully committed to delivering a world class leisure attraction for this summer that will be a UK first and will ensure the stunning Yorkshire coast remains a top visitor destination all year round.”
