TV Star's Academy Launches Performing Arts Summer Schools

The Pauline Quirke Academy of Performing Arts is holding two fun-packed performing arts summer schools in Scarborough this August.

The summer schools, which will cater for children and young people aged 3-18 years, will be held at the YMCA in Scarborough. Students are split into age groups and take part in performing arts workshops in various disciplines before performing their work to family and friends. The summer schools are open to current PQA students as well as non-students.

Principal James Aconley said:
“We always look forward to working with local young performers on our Summer Schools. It’s like a full-time performing arts school and the students really enjoy the jam-packed days. The workshops are fun, energetic and exciting – and we explore so many performing arts styles and genres.”

Young people aged 6-18 year olds will be taking part in a West End Week. Students will work with industry professional teachers on a number of hit musicals, learning choreography, exploring singing technique, and rehearsing scenes from the shows.

The Academy will also be using elements of Film and Television throughout the week too.

3-5 year olds can look forward to a Storybook Week, where children in their early years can explore their favourite childrens’ stories through singing, dance and drama.

James added:
“It’s so exciting to be a part of the PQA summer schools. It’s really fast paced - we start off with a blank canvas and then on the last day we have a complete performance for families to watch. The workshops are all led by industry professionals who are experts in their field, so children and young people can be sure they will get a great performing arts experience.”

The courses will take place from 1st until 5th August 2016, with the Storybook Week finishing a few days earlier on 3rd August. The West End Week runs every day from 10.00am – 4.00pm and the Storybook Week runs 10.00am – 12noon.
